Attended the Yale CCS Populism and the Civil Sphere Conference
Jeffrey Alexander at the Yale Center for Cultural Sociology has an ongoing book series project expanding civil sphere theory outside of the framework of the United States into a global perspective. The latest book project, The Civil Sphere and Populism, is underway, and a conference was held last weekend (June 14-15) for contributors to meet with editors Jeff Alexander, Peter Kivisto, and Giuseppe Sciortino.
As a student working on civil sphere theory with Alexander (my advisor), I was invited to attend as a reader and respondent. I attended a similar conference in October 2017 in Aberdeen, Scotland for the book conference for Breaching the Civil Order: Radicalism and the Civil Sphere. These conferences are always fruitful for meeting other scholars and learning more about refining/extending civil sphere theory. I had a great time!
